Good evening, and happy monday to everyone here on Hot rod time!
My name is James Jensen, and i am excited to have the opportunity to share parts and pieces of my daily life with my fellow car guys on the website. Steve and Candace are great friends, and they have asked me to blog about my experience in the world of custom paint, pinstriping, monster art, custom culture history, and other random musings that sound interesting. i hope that this blog will not only be informal, but entertaining as well for you guys. Anyway, I figured an introduction is in order, for those who don't personally know me, for our first hot rod time pinstriping and custom art blog! so here we go...
My name is James Jensen, i am 25 years old, and I sign all of my projects under the name JAMESJ!
I have been a Utah native all of my life, only leaving to go on the occasional road trip, with most of my days spent in Utah county.
I have been in the custom culture scene since i was 14 years old, and i have been drawing cars and trucks for as long as i can remember. i started getting serious about pinstriping and monster art after meeting Ilene Roth, and a lot of my custom paint heros, including Frank Magoo, Bobbo Dunn, and Greg Cooper at the 3rd annual Rat Fink reunion, held in manti, Ut.
I work at Triple R Restoration, located in Pleasant grove UT. I am an aspiring hot rod builder and auto body technician.
I never went to college, or any formal schooling during any of the time i have been doing these shenanigans. i have, however, had a few awesome mentors since i started, but i will save those stories for later.
Ilene Roth gave me my contract to be an official Rat fink artist at the age of 16, making me one of the youngest licensed 'Roth artists in history.
I have traveled the country, and gone to plenty of awesome shows over the years. including NSRA events, Rat fink reunions, and the ever covetted invite to Brush Off, hosted by Ron Forman.
My current obsesions include running my own car cruise and car show, Kulture Krash, which you will definitely be reading about as we keep going on through the year. i am also a big fan of anything mechanical, i love being outdoors, shooting my recurve bow, tearing up the dunes on my banshee, going on adventures with my lovely wife, Jess, collecting gas and oil stuff like oil cans, gas pumps, and signs, and of course, driving my bitchin old hot rod every chance i can get.
I have also never wrote any of this stuff down, so believe it or not, so you will be right here with me for another great adventure! My plans for this blog are to share experiences with you, show you all where and what i work on during the week. whats new in the custom culture community, my take on some cool history of the custom art movement, some how to's on monster art, pinstriping, and other cool stuff, and to introduce you to some of my great friends, who just happen to be killer pinstripers and artists themselves. I will write about life on the road, funny stories, bad things that have happened to me, and the family i have collected along the way.
So stay tuned, you might be happy you did!
see you all soon!
A little taste of pinstriping and hot rod action that you will be seeing on this blog quite regularly.
Here i am on my birthday, scraping the barnacles of of a good friend's 1972 chevy blazer at Triple R restoraion
