Come out and help us help one of our own by registering your awesome car at the 2017 Kickoff to S.W.A.G. Week at Carl Albert High School! For those of you that may not know, S.W.A.G. stands for Students With A Goal. Every year, CAHS works with a local family in the community that is struggling with a life-threatening illness. The students and staff at the high school, middle school and the three “feeder” elementary schools, work together to make a generous donation to the family and enlist support from the surrounding community as well. There will be food, carnival games, music, inflatables, and of course, a car show! There will be a grand prize for the winner of the crowd favorite car!
All proceeds will go to this year's S.W.A.G. candidate, Chad Ashley, a former Titan and long-time resident of Midwest City. Chad suffers from Cystic Fibrosis (CF). CF is a progressive genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and limits the ability to breath. Currently, Chad’s immune system is extremely compromised because of CF, and as a result he has been diagnosed with a rare infection in his lungs that can only be treated at the Center of Disease Control in Denver, Colorado. This treatment has put an additional burden on the family. On top of his costly CF treatments, he must travel back and forth to Denver and is no longer able to work. In between physical therapy twice a day, breathing treatments, receiving IV antibiotics daily through a P.I.C.C. line and dealing with the side effects, Chad manages to raise twin two-year-old girls with his wife Kris, a former MCHS teacher. As you can see, the family has strong roots in our community and will definitely be blessed by this year’s S.W.A.G donation.
