Doug and Flo Hoppe have had a very happy and successful couple of
years on the Goodguys event circuit. It just so happens they’ve
produced some of the country’s finest automobiles in that time from
their home in Sioux Center, Iowa. Last July their “Reactor” 1967
Mustang (built by the Ring Bros) swept the coveted Goodguys/Air Ride
Technologies Street Machine of the Year award.
 For the Hoppe’s,
lightning struck again today in the sun splashed paddock of the Del Mar
Fairgrounds. Their stylish green 1935 Ford three window coupe, built by
Roger Burman and his team at Lakeside Rods, was crowned the Goodguys
Street Rod d’Elegance winner.

Some of the brave men who fought in
Civil War battles at Fort Fisher may have lived to drive a Model T
similar to the one Al Montenguise had on display there recently. But
they never could have imagined the classic '57 Chevrolets, sporty
Corvettes and tricked-out Mustangs that gathered there for the Back to
the Beach Classic Car Show held by Sun Coast Cruisers.
From the
rare Model T to a Woodie beach wagon, area antique car owners had a
chance to show off their prized cars earlier this month and
unofficially kick off the car show and cruising season.
And while the men and women are passionate about their rides, they also are driven toward community service.
The
group is involved in a wide variety of service projects, gives money to
charitable organizations and sponsors a college scholarship.
