Well, after being offline since Saturday it looks like hot rod Time is back online.

To make a long aggravating story short; our hosting company inadvertently set off the fire suppression system in the data center on Saturday during a routine annual checkup of the fire system. Can we say oops in a major way!

Here's the quote from Westhost:

Chat has arrived!

A super cool new feature for members of hot rod Time - Chat!
Now you can chat with all your hot rod Time friends instantly using the new application and chat bar at the bottom of the page.
Simply clicking on it will open the window and show all of your friends. The friends that are online will show at the top of the window with a 'green' indicator. Simply clicking on their username will open the chat window with them.
Anyone that has used Facebook before will find this very familiar.
Feel free to chat away  and I will write an actual tutorial as soon as I have a couple of free minutes.

Just a note: you DO have to be a member of hot rod Time in order to use the new chat system. If you're not a member yet what are you waiting for, sign up today it's free!

Custom profile URL's have arrived at Hot Rod Time

Hot Rod Time (HRT) has a great new feature for registered members. It's called custom profile URL's. It goes something like this:

Instead of having a link to your profile which is hard to remember and ugly like this : http://www.hotrodtime.com/community/my-profile/my_username

You can now have a custom vanity link like this:
http://www.hotrodtime.com/what_every_you_choose

This will make it much, much easier for you to refer friends and family to your profile on HRT from social networking sites and in email signatures.

Wayne over at Daytech Automotive just sent some updated pics of the CNG hot rod dubbed 'The Gasser' over. The rod is in the build up stage and promises to be one of the most (if not the most) high tech rods on the planet!

Just a couple of build specs for this rod are:

  1. Body and chassis by Factory Five Racing
  2. LS-7 (427c.i.) crate motor from GM Performance that's been torn down to the nuts and bolts and purpose built for CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) with new rings, valves and seats, and a host of other goodies.
  3. 6 speed auto trans by T.C.I.
  4. Ford 9 inch rear with Strange Axles
  5. 4 wheel ABS (anti lock brakes)
  6. Traction control (ala 2009 Corvette)
  7. HID headlight pods (ala 2009 Corvette)

The beginnings of a hot rod..

Back to work

Well with Christmas over I guess it's time to get back to work.  Time to get back to work on the site that is. My new years resolution for hot rod Time is to spend more time on the site and build the community even further. Last year during the summer I was showing upwards of 2 million page views a week and that dropped off sharply after the summer was over. I would like to keep those page views up there and draw in more registered members to truly build a Classic Car Community that is second to none.

Here are a couple of goals for the website that I've set for this year.

  1. Increase readership and membership
  2. Bring more relevant content into the site
  3. Build the community further
  4. List as many car shows as humanly possible
  5. Get more car clubs listed in the directories
  6. Increase the number of vendors and companies listed in the directory
  7. Get the support directory updated and keep it current
  8. Bring in some moderators and support staff to help out
  9. Get the classified ads section finished off
  10. Have fun, visit more car shows (outside of Utah) and oh yeah HAVE FUN!!!

OK, I guess that more than  a couple of goals but I've never been accused of being a math wiz :)

Firewall tightening

Some people have WAY too much time on their hands. Those people are known as SPAMMERS!

Because of increasing spam registrations, I have tightened the firewall surrounding the website. I have been inspecting security logs and have blocked a few well known countries from accessing the website.

We have several members from outside the US including the UK, Canada and even Spain. Blocking an entire country from accessing hot rod Time is not an ideal situation by any stretch of the imagination but is a necessary evil. Some reports show that some countries like Vietnam and China producing a combined 20% of all global spam. The worst offender in the spam creation business is believe it or not the United States coming in at 20% of the global total all by itself!

I have made some changes to the way you register for the free membership to hot rod Time. Now after filling in the registration form you will receive an email with an activation link that you must click (or copy/paste into the address bar of your browser). This is in an effort to stop spammers from accessing the website and ensure the quality content on the site. If for some reason you cannot access the site or have any problems, please let me know and I'll address them for you.

Thank You,

I am pleased to announce that AFVTech has decided to utilize hot rod Time.com as it's exclusive media partner on their '33 Ford CNG hot rod Project.

AFVTech will be updating their blog on hot rod Time with exclusive photos, build details and information along the entire build up phase of their new project.

In case you have not heard yet, they have decided to build a '33 Ford Coupe outfitted with a 600+ horsepower 6.0L motor from the Z06 Corvette running on a dedicated Compressed Natural Gas fuel injection system similar to what they use for their NaturalDrive(tm) CNG Retofit systems.

A company that makes plug-and-play kits to let cars run on natural gas goes hotrodding. Will it convince the old roadster crowd to do low-emissions burnouts?

A company that makes plug-and-play kits to let cars run on natural gas goes hotrodding. Will it convince the old roadster crowd to do low-emissions burnouts?

Corvette-Engined hot rod to Showcase Natural Gas Power
Compressed natural gas conversion company AFVTech Inc. is working on a CNG-powered 1933 Ford Roadster hot rod. Powered by a 600 hp V8 engine, the Roadster will get modern hardware like a six-speed transmission, drive by wire engine management system, four-wheel ABS brakes and selectable traction control. CNG proponents say the fuel burns cleaner than gasoline and can enhance cars' performance. AFVTech

As a fuel for cars, compressed natural gas hasn't exactly exploded in the US. Of all the major automakers, only Honda offers a CNG-powered car, buyers of which are eligible for a tax rebate and get a free pass on the carpool lane in most states. But proponents of CNG say the fuel that's common for buses and fleet vehicles is not only good for commuter cars, but for flamboyant customs as well.
